Authorities have so far come up empty in their manhunt for the driver and passenger of a construction company dump truck that hit and killed a Bayside woman on Northern Boulevard and 223rd Street last month.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information's office for the New York Police Department (NYPD), the Accident Investigation Squad's Public Information Officer, and the Queens District Attorney's office, as of Monday, October 9, the search for the two men and investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The most recent information released about the accident was the description of the two men believed to be in the front seat of the red “Valenza Contractors” truck that struck and killed 67-year-old Yon Chong on Wednesday, September 7. According to the police, the men were described as Hispanic, in their late 20s to early 30s, with thin builds, and wearing work boots and white or off-white work pants.
After striking Chong, at the corner of 223rd Street and Northern Boulevard, the men drove off from the scene of the accident and abandoned their vehicle at 217th Street and Northern Boulevard and fled on foot.
An intense manhunt of the Bell Boulevard business district and the surrounding tree-lined residential Bayside neighborhood, in which a bloodhound and police helicopter and the SWAT team were utilized, ended with no arrests.
Anyone with information about these men is asked to call the police.
Local authorities have also said that the owner of “Valenza Contractors,” Salvatore Valenza, has not been arrested or charged with a crime. Valenza and his staff declined comment on the accident when reached by phone last week.
On the same day as the accident last month, Valenza Contractors was one of 135 businesses cited by the Department of Consumer Affairs for not being properly licensed.
