In celebration of the Year of the Rat, Senator Frank Padavan (left) and Assemblymember Mark Weprin (right, in traditional Asian garb) joined with students, teachers and parents at P.S. 188, the Kingsbury School, in Bayside.
The event, on Friday evening, February 8, was filled with traditional Chinese and Korean songs and dancing including the Chinese Spring Festival Dance, the Korean Fan Dance and the Korean Mask Dance.
Shown here, Padavan and Weprin stand with Principal Janet Caraisco in front of an admirable display of student art.
The traditional celebration begins on the first full moon of the New Year and lasts for 15 days to a month.
While there won’t be a parade down Main Street in Flushing this weekend, there should be plenty of celebrating, and most restaurants still have their New Year’s special menus.
