The Christmas season is a time to reflect and be good to one another. But I am troubled by what happened at the Wal−Mart in Valley Stream, L.I., where Jamaica man Jdimytai Damour was trampled to death for the sake of a few gifts.
The people involved in this action, some maybe parents, acted in an appalling manner with a total disregard for human life. I cannot help but think what kind of role models these parents represent to their children. The example in my view was that the reason for the season is to get gifts and make those holiday bucks.
Christmas has become too commercial. We need to get back to the true meaning of Christmas and teach our children the true meaning of the holiday. We need to instill the spirit of community, compassion and goodwill to all. Christmas is more than carols and presents. It is love, peace and goodwill that dwells in every heart and applies to all people, no matter what their religious faith.
Love one another and treat others with respect. All I pray for this Christmas is that the true meaning of the season may shine through every heart, so be well and good to one another.
