CELL PHONES CAN KILL

The police in New York City are armed with the “no talking on a cell phone while driving” law. THEY NEED TO ENFORCE IT.

Cell phones are distracting when you are driving. They require your attention. Conversations on them can inspire arguments and raise angry emotions, thereby distracting a driver’s attention from the road, where it should be.

We know that silly things like putting on makeup, brushing our hair, eating food, drinking beverages and the like cause us to take our eyes off the road.

Texting is the worst of all cell phone behaviors. We all see people driving tons of metal at high speeds – totally without looking – as they hunt and peck on the tiny keyboards or key pads. Holding a texting conversation while driving is Russian Roulette without the gun – but just as deadly.

No hands-free system is really safe either. If you need to make a call, pull over and stop your vehicle. Have your conversation, make your plans, hold your fight. Then calm down, start your engine and drive on. We all have voice mail on our phones and every incoming call is not critical. If you think so, pull off the road, into a lot, or just turn off the phone in the car.

Anyone who causes a fatality by driving irresponsibly will have to live with the consequences of their actions for the rest of their lives.

No cell phone conversation is worth a life!
