St. Helen’s CYO Cadet High School team finished the year with a championship at St. Thomas the Apostle in the annual Frankie Caropolo Memorial Basketball Tournament.
In a very exciting run, St. Helen’s won the last three games of the tournament by a basket or less. In the final game, on March 20, St. Helen’s had to beat the much bigger St. Thomas the Apostle home team. The game looked like it was going to go into overtime with the clock dwindling down, but with five seconds left, James Lodato (tournament MVP) scored the winning basket, fearlessly going hard to the hoop, as he did in the whole series. The final score was 54 to 52.
