“GOP banks on Lazio vs. Cuomo” (Pete Davis – June 10). Attorney General Andrew Cuomo starts his run for Governor with an enrollment advantage of 5.5 million Democrats to 3.2 million Republicans.
He also has name recognition, a party who holds all statewide offices, well-funded running mates, $16 million in the bank and the ability to raise millions more. Contrast that to former Congressperson Republican Rick Lazio.
Despite actively campaigning for a year, he hasn’t even raised $1 million. Republicans have no statewide offices, only 2 of 26 Congressmembers, 30 mostly aging State Senators, 44 of 150 State Assemblymembers, few major Mayors or County Executives. With the exception of Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donavan running for Attorney General, they have failed to provide Lazio with any credible running mates.
It is a safe bet to prepare your November election results headline “Andrew Cuomo elected Governor” today.
