Amalgamated Bank opens new branch

Amalgamated Bank welcomed the community to its new branch in Jackson Heights, located at 78-01-37th Avenue, on Thursday, April 7.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to mark the opening of Amalgamated’s fifth branch in Queens and its first in Jackson Heights.

The bank’s Senior Vice President and Director of Retail Banking George Maloney, Branch Manager Ismail Ahmed, and staff greeted over 100 guests, who included small business owners, civic leaders, elected officials, and residents.

The bank honored Queens Community Board 3 Chair Grace V. Lawrence, Principal Martha Vasquez of P.S. 69Q, and Associate Executive Director for Community Services Mary Abbate of Queens Community House. The reception concluded with a performance by the chorus and band students of P.S. 69Q.

The new Jackson Heights branch will provide affordable banking services and personal investing and insurance programs to the community. The branch manager has plans to collaborate with local community organizations to provide its free financial literacy workshops to residents. The bank indicated its small business experts will be presenting programs on securing financing for an existing or start-up business.

“Our retail branches and commercial banking operations are focused on serving people and businesses in neighborhoods around New York City,” said Maloney. “We have come to Jackson Heights to serve working people and their families as well as the businesses that help this community thrive.”
