Louisianan, 29, caught hiding pistol in LIC: DA

LONG ISLAND CITY — Police discovered a concealed weapon in the car of a Louisiana man driving in the Queens-Midtown Tunnel last week.

Juan Luna, 29, was driving his 2005 Honda Civic April 19 with his wife, Jane Luna, in the passenger seat and Navidad Crispin-Glavez in the rear seat when an officer spotted a beer can between the driver’s legs, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

After being pulled over, Luna’s wife told the officer there was a gun concealed in the back, where the officer found a semi-automatic, .45-caliber pistol with the serial number scratched off and a magazine containing seven rounds, according to the DA’s office.

Juan Luna, whose blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, said he had purchased the gun from a friend and then lent it to another and was not aware it was in the car, said the DA’s office.

Crispin-Glavez said that Luna said “he needed to buy more guns from shows and bring them up,” according to the DA’s office.

The three were arrested and taken to the 112th Precinct. Juan Luna was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
