From cuts and colors to waves and extensions, customers at Michael’s Place are given star treatment all without paying sky-high prices.
“I love being around people and making people feel good through something as simple as a haircut,” said owner Michael Alick.
Located at 38-07 Bell Boulevard in Bayside, Michael’s Place offers customers services such as haircuts, styling, color, hair extensions, and Brazilian keratin treatment. Alick, who has been in the business for the past 30 years, said his 8-year-old salon is different than others because of the personal touch customers get right when they step into the salon.
“This isn’t Super Cuts or other big salon chains that treat people like numbers,” Alick said. “We treat customers like proper human beings. You’re not a number at my salon.”
Alick, who first learned how to cut hair from his father, said his inspiration for starting his own business comes from his love for people and hair.
“I’m a hair doctor!” he said. “I like challenges, I’m good with management, I enjoy people and I love to make people feel good.”
Alick added that his love for sharing conversations with customers, making them feel comfortable, and his talkative and friendly personality all make for a great time at his salon.
“If you want coffee, I’ll get it, if you need help, I help you, if you forget your wallet, you can pay next time, and if you’re unemployed I discount you,” he said.
When asked why people should choose Michael’s Place over other similar businesses, Alick said he and his staff are “master cutters and masters in hair coloring,” all doing professional work for reasonable prices.
“We’re friendly, kind and treat clients like family,” he said. “We have lots of loyal clients and that’s what keeps me in business – 90 percent of my customers are loyal.”
Michael’s Place is currently offering new clients 20 percent off all services.
