After-school Students Welcome Lawmaker to Rich. Hill Program

75p1
Hundreds of students and residents joined local elected officials for a “family literacy walk” through Long Island City on Oct. 12 in support of the Queens Borough Public Library’s Family Literacy Program at the Ravenswood branch. As noted

Students participating in an afterschool program at P.S. 54 in Richmond Hill were recently visited by City Council Member Karen Koslowitz and Cedric Dew, executive director of the Jamaica YMCA, which supports the program. As noted, the initiative is funded through privatelyraised funds and proceeds awarded to the YMCA by the After School Corporation, a national nonprofit group. Approximately 85 students participate in the program every school day from 3 to 6 p.m., which includes homework help, arts, dance, sports, nutrition and health programming.
