Brooklyn Man Stole At Beauty Parlor

A Brooklyn man was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court last Wednesday, Mar. 7, on charges that he allegedly robbed three women at gunpoint inside a Ridgewood beauty salon in December 2011, it was announced.

Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Jose R. Baez, a resident of West 28th Street in Coney Island.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the stickup took place at 7:30 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 13, 2011 at the New Continental beauty salon located at 861 Cypress Ave. near Cornelia Street.

Reportedly, Baez entered the salon and confronted three women. While displaying a silver handgun, law enforcement sources said, the perpetrator allegedly demanded the victims’ cell phones and cash.

After obtaining the devices and cash from the victims, police said, the suspect fled from the scene in an unknown direction.

Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the incident. None of the women were injured.

Following an investigation conducted by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, Baez was taken into custody last Tuesday, Mar. 6, by Det. James Murray and was charged with first-degree armed robbery.

According to court records, the suspect was arraigned last Wednesday in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Stephanie Zaro, who ordered him held on $20,000 bail. Baez is scheduled to return to court this Wednesday, Mar. 21.
