LONG ISLAND CITY — A 47-year-old registered nurse in Long Island City was arrested on charges of murder, criminal conspiracy and robbery dating back to an incident in Louisiana in 1984, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Leila Mulla, of 11th Street near 34th Avenue, was arrested at her apartment Monday after Louisiana cold case detectives obtained new evidence in the 28-year-old crime, the DA said said. Mulla, an exotic dancer, was the last person seen with 29-year-old businessman Gary Kergan when they were leaving a Baton Rouge nightclub together, the DA said. Detectives later found Kergan’s car with blood in the trunk and evidence of a violent fight in Mulla and her boyfriend’s department, the DA said.
Mulla was awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court as of the TimesLedger’s Tuesday evening press time as a fugitive from justice and faces extradition to Louisiana, the DA said.
