Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Assistance Centers in some New York and New Jersey locations will be open this Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to provide help to taxpayers impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Individuals who have questions about the tax treatment of Sandy payments or losses or who are experiencing filing or payment hardships because of the storm will be able to work directly with IRS personnel.
Special services provided will include assistance with IRS Notices, tax debt, tax liens help with current year tax return preparation, tax law questions, return transcripts and more. Tax return preparation will be limited to Forms1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 and Schedules A, B, C-EZ, EIC, L, M, R, SE and income of $51,000 or less. However, this income limitation is waived if casualty loss criteria is met.
Locally, the special assistance open houses will be held at 2 MetroTech Center, 100 Myrtle Ave., in downtown Brooklyn and at 59-17 Junction Blvd. in Corona. Both locations will also have extended hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during February, with the branches open from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. For further information, visit www.irs.gov.
