Warning To Women Riding The Subways

I recently met with Capt. Michael Telfer, the commanding officer of NYPD Transit District 20, regarding the subways in our communities. He wanted me to convey a warning to everyone traveling in our subways during the rush hour.

There are sexual perverts on the train who are approaching women and inappropriately touching them. Women who are on the train should walk away if someone gets close to them. If necessary, switch cars or get off at the next station, then wait for the next train to arrive.

Telfer stated these perpetrators are prevalent in the subways. They tend to rub up against women. In some cases, the suspects even ejaculate on them.

Undercover officers have been assigned to patrol the subways, Telfer said, but he noted that when the officers attempt to arrest the perpetrator, the female victim is often not willing to press charges. Though the suspects are pulled off the train, if the victim is not willing to press charges, the officers will not arrest the perpetrators.
