City Councilman Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) has introduced new bills he hopes will bring down workplace injuries at city agencies.
The two-pronged legislation would require city agencies to take a look at workplace injury data and report their findings to a new office of risk management in the mayor’s office.
“Right now under city law, the worker’s injuries data from each city agency is compiled by the city and then those reports sit on someone’s desk or get thrown out and the next logical step is not taken, which is for each city agency to look at the data,” Lancman said in an interview.
Lancman added that his legislation would force city agencies to come up with a strategy to lower injuries. If passed, Lancman said the legislation would also save money as the city would not be paying out as much in compensation.
The councilman introduced similar legislation to the state Assembly in 2010 when he was chairman of the chamber’s Subcommittee on Workplace Safety.
