Only a politically naive person would believe Mayor Bill de Blasio is vacationing in Italy when the major impetus for this trip is to meet with some of his leftist Italian comrades of the Democratic Party of the Left, the nom de guerre of the Italian Communist Party after its 1991 reorganization.
A perfect example is de Blasio’s meeting with Ignazio Marino, mayor of Rome, a leftist-centrist who supports right to die legislation and was also backed by the Italian Radicals, a social leftist party which supports the libertario agenda of abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, legalization of “soft” drugs, abolition of capital punishment and anti-clericalism against the Roman Catholic Church.
