City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer held a hearing on Monday, Nov. 24, on a resolution introduced by his colleague, City Council Member Peter Koo, which would recognize and commemorate Jan. 13 as Korean American Day in the City of New York. The resolution acknowledges the tremendous contributions Korean Americans have made to all sectors of our society, including in the fields of law; government; the visual and performing arts; armed forces; business; academia; medicine; and science, including the development of the first beating heart operation for coronary artery disease. During the hearing, representatives from the Korean American Association of Queens, the Korean American Association of Greater New York, Korean Community Services and the Korean American Community Foundation provided testimony supporting the passage of the resolution which is expected to be passed next month. Van Bramer is pictured with Koo, the bill’s prime sponsor, and representatives from Korean American organizations who testified at the Cultural Affairs hearing.
