An elderly man died early Tuesday morning in a fire at his Howard Beach home, according to authorities.
The fire broke out before 4:06 a.m. at an apartment house on 88th Street off 155th Avenue.
Multiple Fire Department units and officers from the 106th Precinct responded to 911 calls about the blaze. After extinguishing the one-alarm fire, police said, firefighters found 90-year-old Leonard Manzo unconscious and unresponsive in his first-floor apartment, cops said.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported the man to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
