Detectives are continuing to investigate a police-involved shooting in Springfield Gardens on Monday night in which an off-duty officer fatally shot a Brooklyn man who allegedly tried to rob him.

The trouble began at 10:36 p.m. in the area of 145th Avenue and 177th Place, where the off-duty officer was approached by 30-year-old Devon Holder — who was brandishing what appeared to be a handgun — and an unidentified accomplice.

According to police, Holder and his partner forcibly removed the officer’s wallet. Seconds later, it was reported, the off-duty cop pulled out his own gun and fired at Holder, striking him in the torso and leg.

Authorities said the unknown suspect managed to flee the scene inside a white BMW heading in an unknown direction.

Officers from the 105th Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. Paramedics rushed Holder to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The off-duty officer, meanwhile, was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries and observation.

During a search, police recovered the weapon Holder allegedly pointed at the officer, which turned out to be a black air pistol.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
