Two eagle-eyed cops collared a Brooklyn man allegedly responsible for a rash of vehicle break-ins in Ridgewood and Maspeth, police announced during Tuesday’s 104th Precinct Community Council meeting in Ridgewood.
Captain Gregory Mackie, executive officer of the 104th Precinct, said that Carlos Berrios of Sunset Park was taken into custody at 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 by 104th Precinct officers who responded to a 911 call reporting a physical dispute at Palmetto Street and Cypress Avenue.
Mackie said the responding officers noticed that one of the men involved in the physical altercation matched the description of the man on a wanted poster for recent car break-ins.
“This is a testament to the community getting involved and reporting things, seeing something and saying something,” Mackie said.
A brief struggle ensued when Berrios resisted arrest, and members of the 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol (104COP) assisted the officers in getting Berrios under control. He is now in custody.
According to Mackie, the vehicle break-ins have subsided since the arrest.
Berrios was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent, resisting arrest, second-degree harassment, criminal mischief with intent to damage property and disorderly conduct. He is due back in court on Feb. 24.
