Jamaica woman punched in October assault dies

By Patrick Donachie

JAMAICA — A woman who was punched in the head and fell to the ground outside a Jamaica deli in October has died. Her death has been reclassified as a homicide, police said.

Eve Gentillion, 69, was outside the deli at 107-60 Jamaica Ave. at 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 15, when police allege Richard Springer, 29, exited the location, approaching Gentillion and striking her in the head with a closed fist. She fell to the ground, sustaining a serious injury on her head and was taken to a local hospital.

Police announced Springer had been arrested Oct. 31, and police charged him with robbery in the first degree and assault in the second degree.

Springer was still in the neighborhood where the attack occurred when he was apprehended by the Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to police.

With Gentillion’s death stemming from her injuries, it is possible the charges against him will be amended.
