Police are searching for a man who stole more than $40,000 worth of jewelry in a series of apartment building burglaries across Kew Gardens.
The first break-in was reported to police on Thursday, May 18, when an unknown male entered an apartment building in the vicinity of Lefferts Boulevard and Metropolitan Avenue at 6 a.m. He used an unknown object to break into an apartment and took jewelry from the residence.
Law enforcement sources said the second burglary occurred on Monday, May 29. At 6:30 a.m. that day, the suspect entered a building in vicinity of Lefferts Boulevard and Metropolitan Avenue, used an unknown object to break into an apartment and took $40,000 worth of jewelry.
Three more burglaries took place on Monday, June 5, authorities said. At 7:45 a.m. that morning, the suspect went into a building in the vicinity of 115 Street and 84 Avenue. After using an unknown object to break into an apartment, the suspect took $500 in Canadian currency, a pair of sunglasses and a watch.
Later that morning, at 11:15 a.m., the suspect entered another building within the vicinity of 83 Avenue and Kew Gardens Road, used an unknown object to enter an apartment and took $5,500 worth of jewelry.
Finally, at 3:30 p.m. that same day, the suspect went into a building that is in the vicinity of 118 Street and 83 Avenue. He used an unknown object to break into an apartment and took $1,500 worth of jewelry.
The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion and aged 25- to 35-years-old.
