A Jamaica man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl repeatedly over a three-year period.

On Tuesday, Aug. 8, Shaking Jones, 36, was found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child, first degree course of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. Jones is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Sept. 13, where he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

According to trial testimony, Jones was dating the mother of a 7-year-old girl and began to sexually abuse the young victim on Aug. 1, 2012; the pattern of abuse continued for three years.

Police were able to arrest Jones after the victim told an adult cousin about the abuse; authorities were notified soon thereafter.

“The facts alleged in this case chronicle a frightening ordeal of sexual violence that went on for years. By using his friendship with the victim’s mother, the defendant took advantage of an innocent child for his own sexual gratification,” Brown said in a statement. “He has now been convicted of being a pedophile and is deserving of a sentence reflective of the cruelty and selfishness of this crime.”
