A Far Rockaway man may serve the rest of his life in a prison cell for bludgeoning his former girlfriend to death on a Jamaica street nearly three years ago, prosecutors announced on Thursday.

Trevis Hall, 31, was convicted in July of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon for killing Margarita Rivera, 31, along Watson Place in Jamaica on the afternoon of Dec. 1, 2014.

According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Hall approached Rivera at 2:30 p.m. that day and plunged a knife into her chest repeatedly, bashed her in the head multiple times with a metal pipe. Hall purchased the pipe earlier that day from a nearby Home Depot, the receipt of which was later found in his possession.

Following the attack, Hall fled the scene, leaving the murder weapons behind. Moments later, authorities said, officers from the 103rd Precinct found Rivera at the location, barely conscious and lying in a pool of her own blood. When they asked her who attacked her, Brown said, she responded “Tre” three times.

Paramedics brought Rivera to a local hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Later that same day, prosecutors noted, police found Hall unconscious from an apparent suicide attempt inside of a Dumpster on 127th Street in Richmond Hill. He was taken to the same hospital where Rivera died and would later be charged with her murder.

Detectives from the 103rd Precinct Detective Squad later observed security camera footage from The Home Depot showing Hall purchasing the pipe 90 minutes before the fatal assault took place.

“Breaking up with someone should not equal a death sentence, but in a violent rage, this defendant carried out a brutal execution of his former lover,” Brown said on Sept. 7. “The sentence imposed by the court today is more than warranted.”

Hall had been a champion Golden Gloves boxer in 2009 and had boxed professionally up until September of 2014.
