Officers at the 104th Precinct on Catalpa Avenue in Ridgewood were treated Thursday to a full spread lunch courtesy of the precinct’s commanding officer, Captain John Mastronardi, and the 104th Precinct Community Council (104PCC).

The luncheon was Mastronardi’s idea as a way to show his appreciation to the entire 104th Precinct command during his six-month tenure as the precinct’s leader.

From 2 to 10 p.m. the officers were invited to get their fill of a wide array of hot and cold foods ranging from several pastas, meatballs and eggplant, to desserts like donuts with “NYPD” written in icing.

“This was the first Command Appreciation Day to provide them with meals that they’re never able to take because they’re so busy on patrol,” Mastronardi said. “So I figured I will feed them from two o’clock in the afternoon to 10 tonight to cover all three platoons so this way everybody gets to eat anytime they want, anytime they stop in the precinct, as long as they’re able to, safely of course.”

Mastronardi plans on making Command Appreciation Day an annual event for his officers.

The commanding officer also thanked the 104PCC for their continued support of the precinct whether it be through community events, precinct events, or helping to keep the community safe.
