Drag queens (and kings) from far and wide converged on the Knockdown Center in Maspeth for a two-day celebration of what makes drag fabulous during the sixth annual Bushwig festival on Sept. 23 and 24.

Over the course of the two-day festival, hundreds of drag queens took to the GAG stage and put on spectacular dances and lip syncing performances full of makeup, glitter and props. The audience went wild for each performer as they danced and gyrated all over the stage.

This is the second year that Bushwig has come to the Knockdown Center, and co-director of the event space, Tyler Myers, called the event and the various performances “a feast for the eyes.”

“It’s special because it is a great party. It’s, in my opinion, best in class in terms of this kind of event in New York City,” he added. “It’s spectacular. It’s a celebration really of drag, but also of the lifestyle and a culture that needs safe space.”

Drag queens were also ready to get their groove on at the outdoor Love Down Low stage where local and international DJs spun tunes to get everyone moving.

Horrorchata, the founder of Bushwig, said she started Bushwig for her small group of drag queen friends.

“All my friends were drag queens and I said, ‘Let’s do a festival,’ and that’s how it happened,” Horrorchata said of the Bushwig festival. “It just gets better every year and it gets bigger every year,” Horrorchata said of Bushwig. “It’s a festival of music, drag, art and love. You come in here with a big heart and everyone is just here to have a good time.”
