The building that houses Bob’s Tropical Pet Center, a longtime resident of Queens, has been put up for sale through realty group Cushman and Wakefield.
The three-story commercial structure, located at 57-45 Myrtle Ave., is currently listed at $1.9 million.
Manager of Bob’s Tropical Pet Center Billy Gentile says a similar offer took place three or four years ago, but no sale was ever made, and that the owners had just been getting a feel for the market. The staff is unsure of what will happen long-term, but they are confident that they will be in business for at least the next several months, Gentile said.
According to Gentile, the building’s owners indicated that if they find a suitor willing to purchase a building at a high enough amount, they would consider selling it.
The owners have not mentioned what their intentions are for the future of Bob’s Tropical Pet Center, according to Gentile, but they will determine whether or not Bob’s Tropical will close several months in advance of a sale.
Bob’s Tropical Pet Center originally opened in 1971, and moved to their current location on Myrtle Avenue in 1992. Bob’s Tropical has served Queens for over 50 years, offering a variety of pets ranging from dogs to lizards to birds, as well as grooming services and a wide range pet food and accessories.
The area where Bob’s Tropical is located boasts high traffic. An estimated 12,000 cars pass the building daily, a press release from Cushman and Wakefield said. The building is also located one block over from a Q55 bus stop and just a short walk away from the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues subway station.
