Cops are looking for a would-be bank robber who tried to hold up a bank in Astoria on Christmas Eve but chickened out on the caper.
Law enforcement sources said the robbery attempt took place at 12:40 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2018 inside the Sterling National Bank located at 37-16 30th Ave.
Police said the crook — described as a black female standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds — approached a teller and presented a written demand. Sources said the note, written in red ink, urged the employee to provide “all the money you have if you don’t want to die.”
But when the teller turned to reach for money, police said, the suspect abruptly left the bank; she was last seen heading eastbound on 30th Avenue.
The incident was reported to the 114th Precinct; there were no injuries.
On Jan. 3, the 114th Precinct tweeted out a grainy security camera image of the suspect, who was seen wearing a black scarf and an orange jacket. Law enforcement sources said she also wore black sweatpants with three white stripes on them and red Puma sneakers.
The NYPD Major Case Squad is investigating the matter.
