A 76-year-old woman from Middle Village has died from injuries she sustained after being struck by an SUV along Woodhaven Boulevard last month, police announced on Thursday.

Law enforcement sources said Eashwari Reddy, 76, of 84th Street was hit as she attempted to walk across Woodhaven Boulevard near 62nd Road, on the Middle Village/Rego Park border, at 6:18 p.m. on Jan. 10.

According to police, Reddy was crossing the boulevard mid-block, from west to east, when she was struck by a 2011 Toyota SUV traveling southbound on Woodhaven Boulevard. The driver, a 44-year-old man, stopped his vehicle after hitting the woman and remained at the scene.

Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call about the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found Reddy on the street, with trauma to her head and torso.

Paramedics rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition; she died there from her injuries on Feb. 3.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation is ongoing.

After this story was first published on Thursday morning, City Councilman Robert Holden took to Twitter to express his condolences to Reddy’s family, and to call for further action to make Woodhaven Boulevard safer.

“Woodhaven Boulevard has been a dangerous mess and we must all exercise more caution because of it. I will continue to work with DOT (the Department of Transportation) to address safety concerns here, and I send my condolences to Ms. Reddy’s family,” he wrote.
