Leaders from the Queensbridge Alliance, a collective of leaders from northwestern Queens, will be joined by other local leaders and members of the community to urge support for bringing Amazon HQ2 to Long Island City.

The press conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the corner of 12th Street and 41st Avenue and will be led by Bishop Mitchell Taylor — the co-chair of the Workforce Development Subcommittee and Community Advisory Committee (CAC) — who is fighting for the implementation of Amazon HQ2.

Elizabeth Lusskin — the president of the Long Island City Partnership — and April Simpson — the president of the Queensbridge Houses Tenant Association — will also be in attendance.

Organizers of the press conference believe that the number of negative rallies against HQ2 have “obscured the tremendous benefits local residents would receive in increased social mobility and revitalization of neighborhood economies,” according to a press release sent to the TimesLedger.

The Queensbridge Alliance hopes the planned press conference “will be the start of setting the record straight,” and stresses that the HQ2 project remains a historic opportunity for Queens, particularly for local residents, with 25,000 to 40,000 jobs potentially becoming available as a result of Amazon’s planned headquarters in Long Island City.

Last week, reports surfaced that Amazon was reassessing its plan to build a campus in Long Island City.
