Hunters Point South Park will host a free concert and dance party in early August as part of a borough-wide summer music series.

The concert takes place at 5 p.m. on August 4 and features London-based artist DJ Rekha. It’s part of the fifth annual “Katz Concert Series” of free outdoor concerts throughout Queens, put on by Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, the Kupferberg Center for the Arts and the NYC Parks Department.

DJ Rekha has gained popularity worldwide for fusing traditional Indian Bhangra music with hip-hop. There will also be a live percussionist and a free Bhangra dance lesson at her show.

As with all concerts in the series, DJ Rekha’s performance will be approximately 90 minutes long and those planning on attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

Katz announced the full lineup of concerts last month. Other venues featured in the concert series include Rockaway Beach and St. John’s University.

“Summers are all about free concerts in the parks,” Katz said. “We’re delighted to continue the partnership and bring this concert series back for the families of Queens.”

Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver said that the series brings people together to celebrate music and enjoy New York City parks.

The series began on June 18 with a Celebrate Jerusalem concert in MacDonald Park in Forest Hills.

The series concludes on August 25 in O’Donohue Park in Far Rockaway with a performance from Motown cover band Dr. K’s Motown Revue.
