Flushing Skyview Center to host ‘End of Summer Bash,’ back-to-school supplies drive

The Shops at Skyview Center in Flushing is inviting families to celebrate the last days of summer on Saturday, Aug. 20, before the new school year begins. 

The Skyview Center’s free ‘End of Summer Bash’ will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Level 4 of the shopping center. 

Guests can enjoy fun carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, a 360-degree photo booth, a live DJ and an entertaining clown and magician that are sure to delight everyone. There will even be a bubble tea DIY with Gong Cha and participants will receive a free mini shaker and apron set from the restaurant.

The shopping center is also hosting a book swap. In partnership with local nonprofit, the Book Fairies, guests can bring any children’s book to swap or donate to the organization at the Book Swap on Level 4 of the shopping center.

From Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, shoppers can also donate school supplies for the Load the Lockers initiative by dropping them off in the vibrant yellow lockers on the mall entrance, benefiting the River Fund, a leading poverty frontline center in New York City. 

The Shops at Skyview are asking for donations of the following school supplies, but are not limited to:

  • Backpacks
  • Colored pencils and markers (8-12 count)
  • Composition books (wide-ruled)
  • Construction paper
  • Dry erase markers
  • Erasers (wedge)
  • Glue sticks
  • Highlighters
  • Scotch tape
  • Student dry erase boards (small)
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Flip chart markers
  • Student headphones/earbuds
