Manhole fire spreads to Dunkin’ in Maspeth: FDNY

A fire broke out at Dunkin’ on Grand Avenue in Maspeth on Sunday, Aug. 21, leaving several businesses along the street without power for hours.

FDNY units were assigned to 6908 Grand Ave. just after 12:05 p.m. after receiving reports of a manhole fire. An FDNY spokesperson said that after firefighters began working, they realized the fire had reached the coffee shop.

“While operating on the scene, members became aware that the fire had extended into the basement of a two-story commercial building,” the spokesperson told QNS.

The incident required 12 units with 60 firefighters and the fire was placed under control just after 1:30 p.m., according to FDNY.

Ally Smith was at the scene and said that several shops along Grand Ave were left without power, two hours after firefighters got the incident under control.

“Yes, I left at 3:30 and all was still dark Rosa’s too,” Smith said.

There were no injuries reported in association with this incident, according to FDNY.
