Resorts World New York City unveiled a new Red Wall Art Gallery exhibit on March 18 in celebration of Women’s History Month.

The exhibit, called “Center Stage: The Power of Women Artists in New York and Philadelphia,” was curated by Danny Simmons, who grew up in Jamaica, and along with his brothers, music mogul Russell Simmons and hip-hop legend Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, co-founded the Rush Arts Gallery along the High Line in Manhattan.

Every year Rush Arts Galleries have worked with new emerging artists and curators. In addition to exhibition opportunities, artists and curators are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of ways, including artist talks, video interviews, panel discussions, and more. Rush Arts additionally provides artists and curators with stipends to assist in furthering their careers.

“This powerful exhibit highlights the importance of women artists in the cultural landscape,” Simmons said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to feature creators from New York City and my new home of Philadelphia who are deeply dedicated to their art careers and have demonstrated having unique artistic voices perfected over years of working in their art studios, pushing limits and creating beautiful works of art.”

Simmons is also the founder and VP of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation which has partnered with Philadelphia-based women-owned gallery and resource center 1040 Creative to help pull the exhibit together. Two of the artists featured in the exhibit at Resorts World New York City, Pauline McCall and Mary Morris, are founding members of 1040 Creative.

Other exhibiting artists include Kate Fauvell, Lusmerlin, Ellen Tiberno, Charlotte Mougin, Wanda Payne, and Sheena Vaughan.

“Women are so often seen as the subject of artwork, rather than the creative force behind it,” said Michelle Stoddart, Vice President of Community Development at Resorts World New York City. “We could think of no better time than Women’s History Month to give these artists the recognition they deserve.”

She added that “Center Stage: The Power Women Artists of New York and Philadelphia” will be on display at the South Ozone Park casino’s famed Red Wall Art Gallery through June 16.

“Danny has launched the careers of some of the world’s top artists today and we’re excited to give these women a place to display their meaningful and creative works,” Stoddart said.
