MSG Sports and MSG Entertainment are partnering with a number of Queens elected leaders and community organizations to provide much-needed school supplies to get them ready for the beginning of the school year.
MSG’s eighth annual donation kit program distributes more than $100,000 worth of Knicks and Rangers branded backpacks, notebooks and other school supplies throughout the New York metropolitan area.
“My office was able to distribute backpacks, notebooks and other school supplies throughout my district thanks to MSG, allowing us to help many students start school prepared and ready to learn,” state Senator Joseph Addabbo said. “The items, which had the Knicks and Rangers logos, were especially appealing to the students.”
Councilwoman Linda Lee hosted a distribution event Wednesday along with several community groups at P.S. 133 in Bellerose.
“Investing in a brighter future for our city means providing our children with all the necessary tools they need for educational success,” Lee said. “I am thankful for the work and generosity of Madison Square Garden, Khalsa Aid and ICNA USA for partnering with my office to provide the backpacks and supplies necessary for our students to embark on another successful school year to fulfill their academic dreams.”
MSG Sports and MSG Entertainment created the program in 2016 to collaborate with elected officials, community leaders and nonprofit organizations to make a difference for many local students in need. This year, more than 5,500 of the back-to-school kits were shipped across New York City, Long Island, Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
“MSG Sports and MSG Entertainment are committed to supporting our communities, and this program is something we all look forward to at the end of every summer because we know the significant impact it has for thousands of students and their families as they prepare for the new school year,” said Rich Constable, executive vice president and global head of government affairs and social impact at MSG Entertainment. “This program relies on the support of the leaders in each of these communities that share our commitment to giving back, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them not only on this initiative, but also on our work throughout the year that benefits students in our communities.”
