Flushing Council member Sandra Ung is collaborating with the CUNY School of Law to help eliminate the financial limitations and language barriers that come with seeking legal help in her district.

Ung announced on Sept. 11 that the consultations will be made available in her Flushing district office — located at 135-27 38th Ave., Suite 388 — through June.

Consultations will be held with attorneys Chejin Park or Lisa Zheng, who can each address a wide range of legal concerns, including employment, housing, landlord-tenant relations, immigration and civil issues. There will be two six-hour courses offered per month until June.

Beginning in September, Zheng — who speaks Mandarin and English — will begin offering consultations on the second Friday of each month beginning October Oct. 13, while Park — who speaks Korean and English — will begin consultations on the third Friday of each month beginning Sept. 22.

“You may only see two attorneys here serving people in the community, but behind those two attorneys, there are hundreds of lawyers that are part of the Community Legal Resource Network,” said Park.

The collaboration with CUNY Law School is aimed at providing better “community access to legal services” and will be expanding with a second attorney per month due to the “great need for legal assistance in the community,” according to Ung.

Those interested in attending the consulting sessions are asked to make reservations by calling 718-888-8747; however, walk-ins may be accommodated depending on space and time restraints.
