A woman who was walking with her husband was viciously beaten and robbed by two assailants in East Elmhurst last month, according to the NYPD.
The incident occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 21 as the couple was walking along a commercial corridor in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard and 84th Street.
Police from the 115th Precinct reported that the 54-year-old woman became engaged in a dispute with two strangers just before 4:30 a.m. The argument quickly escalated into violence as the two men began to punch and kick her multiple times, causing her to lose consciousness. The perpetrators then forcibly removed the victim’s purse containing $350 in cash, police said.
The suspects ran off southbound on 84th Street towards 34th Avenue. The victim sought medical attention by private means, while her husband was uncooperative with investigators and wouldn’t say why he could not come to his wife’s aid while she was being attacked, according to a source familiar with the case.
The NYPD released surveillance photos of the two men on Sept. 13.
One of the attackers has a light complexion and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and dark colored pants.
The second suspect is described as having a light complexion and a heavy build. He was also wearing a black shirt and dark colored pants.
A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to their arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
