Students at P.S. 162 John Golden in Bayside put on performances for their families and faculty inside their newly renovated auditorium following a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.
The renovation, funded by a state grant, began at the start of the school year and concluded just in time for the community to enjoy it before summer break.
Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, who represents eastern Queens, secured state grants for three schools in School Districts 25 and 26 last year. P.S. 162, as well as P.S. 24 Andrew Jackson in Flushing, were designated $250,000 each for significant auditorium upgrades. Additionally, M.S. 74 Nathanial Hawthorne in Oakland Gardens received $80,000 for upgrades to the gymnasium.
“Seeing the students of P.S.162 performing their hearts out in their newly improved space brings me great joy,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “This state investment has not only revitalized the school’s auditorium but has also allowed P.S. 162 to continue in its commitment to introducing and fostering the love of performing arts in our youth.”
The auditorium is now equipped with new electrical, audio, and video equipment as well as enhanced lighting and fresh paint upgrades.
“The John Golden family is deeply grateful for Assemblywoman Rozic’s unwavering support of P.S. 162,” Principal Eve Sci said. “Because of her dedication to New York City public schools, we finally have a modern auditorium that honors the hard work of our students and staff as we celebrate the importance of Art in Education.”
