The Hunters Point Parks Conservancy (HPPC) has announced the return of its popular outdoor movie series, CinemaLIC, to Hunter’s Point South Park for its milestone tenth year.
HPPC’s summer movie program features six days of films in the waterfront park, kicking off with a screening of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” on Saturday, June 22.
This year, CinemaLIC is launching its six-film series with a vibrant Barbie-themed event on June 22, brought to life through partnerships with Nest Seekers, PS-IS 78Q PTA, and Frank Ottomanelli’s on the Water.
The festivities, free to the public, will take place starting at 6:30 p.m. at Hunter’s Point South Park on Center Blvd. They will feature a Barbie photo booth and themed props provided by PS IS 78 PTA, with photos captured by Velvet Turtle Events.
Attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities, including a Barbie costume contest at 7:30 pm, with categories for both individuals and families. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite Barbie or Ken characters, from the classic Malibu styles to professions like astronauts, doctors, and firefighters.
Additionally, Ottomanelli’s will offer themed cocktails and mocktails. With the extended daylight of one of the year’s longest days, the movie screening is scheduled to start at 9 p.m.
CinemaLIC will also take place on July 20, August 2, August 9, and September 13 before concluding on October 26 with the second-annual Halloween on the Waterfront film screening.
TF Cornerstone is sponsoring a screening of “Wonka” on July 20, while Nest Seekers is supporting a screening of “Groundhog Day” on August 2 and “Clueless” on August 9.
The summer series will conclude with a screening of the animated “Aladdin” film on September 13, supported by Shibley Day Camp. Nest Seekers and PS IS 78Q PTA will team up for the screening of the original “Addams Family” on October 26.
HPPC is collaborating with Rooftop Films on the upcoming summer series, which will feature a 30-foot inflatable screen and enhanced video projection equipment.
HPPC President Rob Basch welcomed the return of the upcoming series and described the waterfront park as the best theater in the city. “We look forward to another great season of watching movies at the best theatre anywhere. Thanks to all our sponsors, particularly Nestseekers, for once again being our lead sponsor for the tenth year in a row,” Basch said in a statement.
During the summer movie series, food and beverages will be available to purchase at Ottomanelli’s By the Water. However, members of the public are not permitted to bring alcoholic beverages into the park, and alcohol can only be consumed inside the designated picnic area beside Ottomanelli’s.
Organizers request that all attendees ensure they clean up after themselves, particularly in regard to any food or beverages brought to the event.
