People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to try out for the Queens College Choral Society, which is seeking new members for its 2024-2025 concert season.

Now in its 84th year, the chorus group is a diverse ensemble of members from the campus’s surrounding community, as well as Queens College faculty, students and alumni. The chorus also has a high school outreach program.

Anyone with some prior singing experience is welcome to audition to be part of the annual winter concert in December. The theme this year is peace and unity, as inspired by the music of Haydn, Vaughan Williams and Frank London.

And in May 2025, the spring concert will feature Mendelssohn’s “Elijah,” considered one of the most beloved major works ever written.

Interested singers can sign up for an audition slot either on Zoom, or in Room 350 of the Music Building at Queens College in Flushing. The ten-minute audition will consist of demonstrating basic singing skills, and no preparation is required.

Dozens of slots are available in the evenings from Monday, Aug. 19, until Monday, Aug. 26.

Choral Society rehearsals will be held weekly at the college on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:45 p.m. beginning on Aug. 28.

Since 1941, the Choral Society has provided a space for local singers to learn choral masterpieces and perform in front of the community’s music lovers during seasonal performances.
