Prepare for a spine-tingling evening as local musical duo takes the stage in Kew Gardens, offering a haunting live performance sure to captivate horror enthusiasts of all kinds.

The Flushing Remonstrance, a duo composed of percussionist Catherine Cramer and keyboardist Robert Kennedy, invites Queens residents to an exclusive one-night-only showing of the horror classic “Nosferatu.”

The gothic 1920s vampire film will play at the Kew Gardens Cinema, located at 81-05 Lefferts Blvd., on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Cramer and Kennedy’s original scores will provide a unique sensory accompaniment experience for viewers of the eerie film.

Kennedy explained that their performance accompanying the silent-era movie has become a yearly seasonal tradition. “We’ve been playing Nosferatu around Halloween season every year since 2016,” Kennedy said.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the band played Nosferatu at a makeshift drive-in theater set up in a file behind the New York Hall of Science. Kennedy said it was a way to bring social-distanced entertainment during a time when live music shows were virtually obsolete.

“We played to an audience of cars away from everybody. Because nobody could be open for anything at all, we were the only advertised live music in the city of New York on that date in October,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said audience members are in for “a beautiful version of the film” that is high in quality. He added that, unlike the classical music that usually accompanies Nosferatu, The Flushing Remonstrance’s performance will offer a modern sound that plays into the emotions of the storyline.

“It’s an incredible film. It’s so innovative in the visual effects, the staging and the makeup,” Kennedy said.
