The Greater Jamaica Development Corporation (GJDC) is hosting its third annual Jamaica Q 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The USTAF-certified 5K run is designed to unite the community through a day of fitness and physical activity.
Individual registration for the event is $25 and $20 for groups of 15 or more. Signups will also be open on-site on the morning of the event. The 5K is open to participants of all experience levels living in the five boroughs.
The early morning race begins at York College, where runners can participate in a pre-race warmup event led by fitness instructors. During the race, runners will pass iconic landmarks in Jamaica, including VP Records, Margerita Pizza, King Manor Museum and Rufus King Park. Table vendors and wellness event activities will be located at the finish line. Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi will serve as the Grand Marshal of the race.
Patricia Robinson, Chief Administrative Officer of (GJDC) said the organization started the race in 2022 to celebrate its 55th anniversary. “It proved so popular that community leaders and elected officials insisted that we have it every year,” Robinson said. “We invite everyone to participate. We want to see that this race continues to grow every year.” Robinson added that around 400 runners and walkers signed up to participate in this year’s race, double the number of participants in the inaugural race.
