The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI), in collaboration with UN Climate Week, invites residents of all ages to take part in its weeklong climate-focused ‘STEMOCRACY’ Festival.
The weeklong festival, held at the museum located at 47-01 111th St. in Flushing, runs from Sept. 22 to 28 and highlights the intersection of science, technology, engineering, and democracy. It will focus on pressing community issues such as combating climate change, promoting equity, and exploring how advancements in STEM industries can impact democratic goals, encouraging community input and action.
Participants will explore climate change and learn how communities, NGOs, and government agencies use science and technology to tackle this global challenge. Highlights of the event include daily discussions led by Pablo Venegas, Rainforest Partnership’s resident herpetologist, who will share his experiences as a zoologist, including discovering new species and conducting scientific expeditions.

Tuesday, Sept. 24 Arts + STEM = Environmental Justice Power
3 p.m. Launch Party of Immersive Rainforest Installation in the Viscusi Gallery
4 p.m. EARTHGANG visit to NYSCI Garden – with conversations with the community about community gardening and how they can make a difference
5 p.m. A Conversation with EARTHGANG: Artists using Science to make a Difference. EARTHGANG is an American hip-hop duo from Atlanta. Rappers Olu and WowGr8 will discuss their commitment to using science to address climate change.
6 p.m. Screening of Films for the Forest followed by a light reception

5:30 p.m. Launch of new Hydroponic Garden Towers at NYSCI – The Hydroponic Garden Towers is a project created in collaboration with NY Sun Works and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. NY Sun Works will run a hands-on workshop on upcycling water bottles into hydroponic gardens.
