A Flushing man was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder for allegedly shoving an 82-year-old woman onto the tracks at the Main Street 7 train station during a random attack on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Brandon Harris, 35, who lives directly across the street from the bustling subway station, was booked at the Transit District 20 headquarters at the Briarwood subway station in Jamaica on Monday.
Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing and TD20 responded to a 911 call of a woman in need of medical attention just before noon on Oct. 2. Officers found the senior lying on the track between subway cars. EMS responded to the crime scene and rushed the victim to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition with minor head injuries.
A preliminary investigation determined the victim had just gotten off a northbound 7 train at the Main Street subway station when Harris allegedly came up behind her and pushed her off the platform. There is no known motive at this time, but Harris and the victim were not known to each other, according to an NYPD spokesman.
Harris was charged with first-degree attempted murder, a felony, and assault in the first-degree, also a felony, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
