The beloved King of Falafel & Shwarma food truck in Astoria will be moving from its longtime Broadway location and make pit stops on Ditmars Boulevard instead.
According to owner Freddy Zeideia, the current location is no longer viable after he opened a brick-and-mortar nearby that serves the same food. His food truck, which was parked in front of a C-Town at 29-10 Broadway, temporarily moved to 31st Street and Broadway because of construction.
“We have just opened our food store and we are too close to the store so we gotta get a bit farther,” Zeideia said.
The King of Falafel restaurant opened in January at 30-15 Broadway and serves an expanded menu with more salads and daily specials. Zeideia, a Palestinian immigrant who uses variations of his mother’s recipes, opened the food truck in April 2002.
He said the food truck will roam the Ditmars Boulevard area and will not “set up an exact location.” Though timing for the move has not been set, the King of Falafel will announce where patrons can find the truck on social media.
“We are truly grateful to have had the opportunity to serve in the same location in front of C-Town for almost 14 years,” Zeideia said in a Facebook post.
