Club Purlieu, the Astoria nightclub that made headlines after a livery cab driver was shot outside last week, was temporarily closed by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Thursday night.

An inspection conducted on March 10 by the 114th Precinct in conjunction with the Department of Health, Department of Buildings, the State Liquor Authority and the DCA found many violations, according to a spokesperson for state Senator Michael Gianaris.

“It is evident that Club Purlieu is a danger to local residents and a detriment to our community’s quality of life,” Gianaris said. “The management of this club puts our community at risk, wastes resources and delivers a terrible message to our children. It is unacceptable.”

The DCA did not immediately respond to QNS requests for comment.

Club Purlieu was also the scene of a stabbing last year involving five men who stabbed and robbed three victims. During a party for the rapper Chedda Da Connect, three men suffered from stab wounds to the chest, abdomen and shoulder. The victims were also robbed of their cellphones and jewelry.

Councilmen Jimmy Van Bramer and Costa Constantinides, along with Community Board 1, will hold a rally on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. outside of the club to call on the State Liquor Authority to revoke the club’s license and the NYPD’s office of Citywide Club Enforcement to permanently shut down the club.

“We need to rally together to make sure the doors stay shut for good,” Van Bramer said in a statement. “Club Purlieu fosters violence, and it’s not the kind of business we want in our community or our city.”

A club employee declined to comment on the closure when contacted by QNS.
