Another of Ridgewood’s former manufacturing sites has been transformed into towering residential units as The Mill — a seven-story residential building with 89 rentable units — is preparing to open at the beginning of September.
The Mill, located at 1626 Madison St., sits on the former site of the Philru Knitting Mills and will be offering a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.
According to Andrew Barrocas, CEO of MNS, the company that is handling the marketing and leasing of the building, “studios start at $1,750, one-bedroom units at $2,000 and two-bedroom units at $2,500,” he told QNS in an email.
“We are the nicest building in Ridgewood/Bushwick and we are at walk-up pricing,” Barrocas wrote.
Aside from the 89 rental units, The Mill will also come with a rooftop terrace, a landscaped courtyard, a lounge with a fireplace, bike storage, on-site parking and a laundry room.
Over the years the site previously held a post office, a gasoline garage with an underground tank, a knitting mill, a gas station and an auto repair garage.
According to a report by the Times Newsweekly in 2014, the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Health Department oversaw investigative work by 1614 Madison Partners LLC as part of the Brownfields Cleanup Program, which offers incentives to property owners who remove contamination from locations for reuse and redevelopment.
The Mill, which will begin moving people in on Sept. 1, is being billed as Ridgewood’s largest residential building, but it may not hold that moniker for long. The Ridgewood Tower, a 17-story, mixed-use building located at 54-27 Myrtle Ave., and 336 and 350 St. Nicholas Ave. is currently in the construction phase.
