During the month of February, the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) will host a screening with a special guest in honor of Black History Month.

The program for Feb. 1, is a screening of “Body Games: Capoeira and Ancestry,” a Brazilian, United Kingdom and South African documentary about the African roots of the Brazilian martial art followed by a post-film discussion with Columbia University Professor C. Daniel Dawson.

On Feb. 8, there will be a conversation with the actress-turned-filmmaker Karyn Parsons, who played the role of Hillary Banks in popular show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Parsons produces animated shorts for children about African American achievement. In addition to Parson’s talk, her most recent film, Flying Free: The Bessie Coleman Story, will be screened.

There will be an encore presentation of the one-day film festival centered around social justice themes, Moving Body—Moving Image, on Feb. 15.

On the final Friday of the month, MoMI will host the world premier of AND iDANCED, a documentary that celebrates the hip hop dancers who performed with some of the best-known rappers and singers of the 1980s and 1990s. It will be followed by a panel discussion and dance party.
