Jamaica Group Studying Flushing Hospital Takeover

A top administrative aide at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center confirmed last week that an intensive study is being conducted to determine whether an offer will be made to purchase Flushing Hospital.
The official made the comment at the opening of Jamaica Hospital’s Richmond Hill Family Practice Center. He said several members of the Jamaica Hospital management team were working with Beth Israel Medical Center to weigh the next step.
Meanwhile, New York Hospital Queens President Steve Mills told a news conference last week that no offer had been received from Jamaica Hospital or any other facility.
The press briefing was called to report that satisfactory progress was being made in negotiations with 1199 National Health and Human Services Employees Union and the New York State Nurses’ Assoc.
Mills also said that a $26,000 reward had been posted by the Hospital board and medical staff for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for a "suspicious" fire that damaged a hospital conference room.
He asserted no services had been eliminated at Flushing Hospital and that many had been added, including the Queens Eye Center, the Hand and Foot Surgery Center, the Center for Acute Geriatric Medicine and a cardiac emergency unit.
