The Board of Education defended an Internet filter installed at Benjamin Cardozo HS and other city schools as a temporary device in face of criticism from the New York Civil Liberties Union that the block constituted censorship.
The filter, called I-Gear, was criticized by teachers at Cardozo in Bayside, who complained to the New York Civil Liberties Union about their inability to access legitimate research sites such as news organizations, on the World Wide Web.
